MOVE IT! by bike

Moving The World To A Greener Future

MOVE IT! by bike has been serving New Orleans by moving stuff since August of 2013 using a bicycle and a trailer that can haul 600lbs.

It Moved

Elizabeth called on MOVE IT! by bike to unload her rental truck into her new place in New Orleans.  Originally we were hired to move everything into her apartment in the French Quarter but that apartment fell through.  Instead she moved into a place in the 2000 block of Broadway.  Freddy and Chris worked fast and moved in the contents of one truck and part of a trailer along with some items stuffed into two cars and did it all in 1 and a half hours.  Elizabeth was billed $80.00.

More Room

Camille found a new place in the 4500 block of S. Roman Street that had more room than her old place on the 2800 block of St Charles Ave. and called on MOVE IT! by bike to deliver her furniture from the old place to her new place.  A full sized bed, a couch, a stuffed chair, TV, TV Stand, 2 dressers, a book shelf, and a table were all moved in three hours.  Camille was billed $180.00.

First to Sign

Katie contacted MOVE IT! by bike to move a desk from the seller's home in the 900 block of Lane Street to her and Cameron's place in the 2600 block of Lepage Street.  Cameron helped remove the desk from it's old home, load and unload the desk from the trailer and bring it into it's new home.  Cameron was the first to sign this years bicycle helmet.  The move took less than an hour and Katie and Cameron were billed $30.00.

Lamp in a Box

Debbie bought a lamp but did not want to carry it the several blocks to her apartment in the Quarter as it was bulky, heavy and fragile. So she called on MOVE IT! by bike to deliver it for her. Tim picked it up from the 300 block of Royal Street and delivered it to her apartment that is on the 500 block of Madison. The whole thing took less than and hour and Debbie was charged $30.00.

It's Complicated

Corry called MOVE IT! by bike to move her things to her new place.  Trouble was, she was out of town.  But Mary would be our contact person and help plan the move.  Mary had to make arrangements with Sarah, at Mary's old place and make sure all was ok to go with Bridget, Mary and Corry's room mate.  I think I have all this right.

When MOVE IT! by bike arrived we found Webster Street closed due to work being done by Entergy to the power lines.  The foreman of the Entergy crew allowed us in but we had to load our trailers half a block away because he would not let them on the street.  So that is what we did, carried everything out of the apartment to the side street where we loaded our trailers.

When we were finally on our way, our route took us through Audubon Park on their bicycle trail.  How nice it was not having to deal with cars and trucks.  New Orleans is adding a nice bike trail in the Lafitte Greenway and will be a super highway for cyclists and runners.

So the bottom line is on the day of the move, MOVE IT! by bike transported Corry's things from the 600 block of Webster Street to the 1200 block of Hillary Street.  Chris and Freddy did the whole move in 2 hours and Corry was billed $120.00.

Three PODs

Trisha needed three PODs worth of furnishings and boxes moved into her new place.  The PODS were to arrive on Monday but did not and so the job was postponed until Friday at 5:15 PM.  The MOVE IT! by bike crew showed up with equipment to help move everything in.  Trisha directed the crew in placing the items in her new place.  Some went to her bedroom, some to her office, some to the kitchen, some to the shed in the back and some to be placed back into one of the PODs.  Trish was moving in with a person already living there and wanted to disrupt things as little as possible.  When all was moved in the place looked very much like it did before the move save a few boxes in the kitchen.  Mission accomplished in 2 hours and 15 minutes.  Trisha was billed $135.00 for the job.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MOVE IT! by bike

On this day two years ago MOVE IT! by bike was launched. It all started when Tim had to move when his French Quarter building was sold and the new owner gave all who lived in it 30 days to move out. Tim ordered a trailer from Bikes At Work and used it to to move his things and furniture. During his move he had many stop him to ask what was going on. Many asked if he could move them when the time came so Tim decided to go into business. MOVE IT! by bike started with that trailer a Marin Muir Woods bicycle and Tim. If you needed a couch moved the customer had to be on the other end of the couch to load it and unload it. Today MOVE IT! by bike has two trailers, three Marin Muir Woods bicycles, various pieces of moving equipment and a crew of more than a dozen independant contractors to call on.

We have a tradition at MOVE IT! by bike that the person we move autographs Tim's bicycle helmet. We retire this helmet every year so helmet #2 goes on the shelf and helmet #3 goes into use today. My hope is that it gets retired early for lack of room for autographs.

Now She's a Believer

Christina needed to move her things to a new, larger, brighter, less roach infested apartment and called MOVE IT! by bike.  She found us through Thumbtack and not visited this website and doubted that we could do the job on bicycles.  But we were less expensive and was promised that we can do the job so she hired us.

On moving day Christina and her room mate were not quite finished packing.  We gave her our box tape and they finished packing the boxes.  A few of the boxes were produce boxes that had no lids of Freddy and Tim wrapped those boxes in plastic wrap to seal in the contents.  All the boxes were loaded on one trailer.

A dining table, two wooden chairs, a cafe table, an end table and a full size bed was loaded on the other trailer.

There was road construction on Jefferson Ave right in front of the new place and traffic was down to one narrow lane, but we did not need that lane and pulled out trailer up on the driveway and the side walk.

Christina and her room mate helped carry some boxes in and soon all her things were in her new place.  They marveled at how well the move went and how careful we were with her things.  The job took 2 hours and the bill was $120.00.

Wake Up!

David hired MOVE IT! by bike to move his furniture from the 1400 block of St. Mary Street to the 1300 block of St. Andrews Street.  Our crew arrived at 10:00AM as arranges but through out the morning we were not able to contact David.  We waited until 10:30AM and messaged David that we had to leave.  On the way back home my phone rang.  It was David apologizing for not meeting us and asking when we could reschedule.  I told hime let me see if we can do it now.  Freddy had already made other arrangements but Chris was happy to turn around and get moving.  I would replace Freddy making it a full crew.  MOVE IT! by bike moved David in 2 hours and 30 minutes and was billed $150.00.  We did not charge a late wake up fee.

A Sofa Sleeper and a Chest of Drawers in One Hour and Fifteen Minutes

Caitlin needed a sofa sleeper and a chest of drawers moved from the 3000 block of Royal Street to the 900 block of Frenchman Street. Another mover had promised to do the job but did not show and called on MOVE IT! by bike to do the job. After much confusion due to my phone being stolen and texts from the thief stating "Don't text me." and Caitlin giving us the address across the street we got stated. David and Michael did a great job and in only 1 hour and 15 minutes Caitlin had her furniture in her apartment. I did not get any pictures as my phone was not in my possession.

Two Trips

MOVE IT! by bike moved a couch, a dresser, 2 bookcases, full sized bed, frame and headboard, a desk, dining table and three chairs.  The move distance was a bit over 3 miles and took us two trips to move it all.  It took 5 hours and 15 minutes to move it all.

From Apartment to House

Candice needed a few things moved from her 3400 block Esplanade location to her new home on the 5200 block of Arts Street.  Scott, Ismael and Tim joined up to move a Futon & Mattress, Dresser, Dining Table, a book shelf, a small recliner and a Queen sized mattress and box spring.  We moved all of it in one 3.7 mile trip in three and a half hours costing Candice $175.00.

Second Time Around

Laura purchased a bed and dresser from another student and needed both moved.  Laura had used MOVE IT! by bike to move her things to her apartment last year and hired us again.  With the help of Laura and the two guys who sold the furniture, the bed was dismantled and loaded on the trailer along with the dresser.  Laure opted to move the mattress on the roof of her car along with a few parts of the bed.  The rest was move by bicycle and trailer.  Laura and Tim worked together to unload everything and bring it in to her apartment.  This all took 2 hours and billed for $50.00.

It Will Fit

Monique needed some things moved that would not fit in her car so naturally she thought of a bicycle to move them.  LOL  Scott and Ishmael moved a bed, a dresser, a table, a couch, a love seat, and various smaller items.  This move took two trips and four hours.

Is Your Refrigerator Running?

Muna needed a refrigerator returned to Home Depot because it would not fit through a space in her apartment to get it to the kitchen.  Home Depot refused to transport the refrigerator back to the store so Muna  called on MOVE IT! by bike.  Tim showed up with his newest moving toy, an appliance dolly.  But even with the dolly the refrigerator was to much for Tim.  Fortunately a crew from Celtic Carpentry was working next and gave Tim a hand moving it down some steps and onto the trailer.  Never again will we try to move a large fridge by ourselves.  The move took way longer than estimated, but in the end MOVE IT! by bike did get the fridge to Home Depot with out a ding nor a scratch.

Bed Time

Matt & Chelsie were moving into town and needed their rented truck unloaded.  They hired a crew of 3 MOVE IT! by bike people.  Diana, Stevie and Tim got everything out and into their new home with the help of Matt and Chelsie in two hours.  What took so long?  Well, the bed would not fit up the stairs leading to the bedroom.  So we hoisted it up to the second story balcony and in through the French doors.

You Can Bed On It

Marcos needed a bed moved a few blocks and called MOVE IT! by bike to do the job.  Marcos and Miranda helped move and load and unload the bed while Tim hauled it on the trailer.  The whole job took just under an hour.  Marcos is busy promoting his documentary movie "By Blood" which chronicles American Indians of African descent as they battle to regain their tribal citizenship.  Here is link to the web site http://www.bybloodthefilm.com/#new-page

Last Minute Move

Tiffany called looking for a mover for her friend Natalia.  Natalia's land lord had raised her rent by $500.00 and could no longer afford to live there.  She found a new place and needed her bed and bicycle moved.  Trouble was she was moving from Metairie (Almost Kenner) back into New Orleans (a distance of 11 miles) and the St. Pats Parade was blocking the shortest path.  Long story short, MOVE IT! by bike came through for Natalia.  Tim's broken collar bone prevented him from lifting anything so Natalia's friends did all that but Tim was able to pedal the bike to pull the trailer.  Tim arrived at the moving from location at 6:30PM and all was moved in at 9:15 so the whole move took 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Teacher 2 Teacher

Jasmine a former client (see Teacher on the Move) recommended MOVE IT! by bike to fellow teacher Kerinn.  Kerinn had found a great apartment and needed to move her things to it.  David and Scott moved the large items she could not move with her car with included a bed, dresser, sofa, two over stuffed chairs and a tall chest of draws.  Tim was there as well but failed to take pictures.

Boxes and Boxes and a Few Things

Lielah called on MOVE IT! by bike to help her move to her new place.  We delivered our reusable bins that fit and stack so nicely on our trailers the day before her move so she could be packed and ready on moving day.  Tim and David managed to move all Lielah's things with two trailers in one trip.  The whole move took 2 hours.
