Moving The World To A Greener Future
MOVE IT! by bike has been serving New Orleans by moving stuff since August of 2013 using a bicycle and a trailer that can haul 600lbs.
Tom and Tim moved a cast iron bathtub from the 5800 block of Front Street to the 2400 block of Baronne Street. We got a lot of looks when transporting this tub. If only we had two tubs we could have had a Cialis commercial.

We moved a china cabinet for "Sprout" from Pauline St in the Bywater to Taft Place in Mid-City.

Tom and Tim helped move some furniture in Metairie.

I have finally cleared out my storage room in St. Rose. This load was mostly science teaching supplies along with a glass computer desk. A good deal of books and papers included so it was quite heavy. The weather was great with the exception of the wind in my face on the way back to New Orleans. I had two flats on the trailer caused by chards of broken glass. The flats were on the tire nearest the curb where all the junk is. One nice thing of having two wheels on each side is that one does not need a jack to patch the inner tube if it is the outermost tire. Looking into adding some sort of jack or stand to my kit in case the inner most tire goes flat. I took Airline Hwy back this time instead of the bike path on the river levee. The overpasses were brutal and ended up getting off the bike and pushing everything to the top. Along the way I took some pictures:

Mostly teaching supplies which included books and papers along with a class computer desk and a laundry stand. Heavy stuff.
This trip took me from Orleans Parish, through Jefferson Parish, to St. Charles Parish. A Parish in LA is equivalent to a County.
Passed by where our beloved Saints train.
35.9 miles round trip.
Trip to storage unit included several overpasses and underpasses. 15.1 miles
Return trip along bike trail on levee. 20.8 miles

Made it!
Moving things from one storage unit to another. This load was some chairs and a table, winter clothes, shoes, Monopoly games and hangers. It rained on my way back and soaked the moving blankets making them very heavy. Note to self: bring a tarp.
Just arrived:
Four more moving blankets (So many uses when moving)
Package of 26 inch long rubber bands (Used to keep moving blankets in place when wrapped around item being moved)
A canvas bag to more easily carry and protect mattresses.
Well...... Not everything went into storage. The rose plant is now enjoying the outside at my new place. Taken in front of the almost ready St. Roch Market.

Mostly bedding with bar ware, wine rack and wine, plants and grill, plant stand, vacuum, broom and tire pump.
I caught the UPS driver as I was loaded up and on my way with a load with my small trailer on Wednesday. He was only two blocks away so I took delivery then and there. I locked up my bike and carried the boxes (there were only two) back to my old place. Then it was off to deliver my load to my new place, unload and unpack and return to put the new trailer together.

At this point one of my neighbors needed help moving so I pitched in. I had to go to work so the rest of the assembly had to wait. I forgot my camera the next day and so I have no record of the final assembly,
I am very impressed with this trailer. It is a work of art. It all fit together so well. The people at Bikes At Work make quality stuff.

Ordered a trailer today (8-13-13) that can cary up to 600 pounds. Problem is the manufacturer is backed up and it will not ship until the end of the month. I wanted to use it to move my own things to my new place but the trailer will not be here in time for that.
