Chifforobe and Two Dressers

MOVE IT! by bike was asked to move a chifforobe and two dressers from the 1500 block of Prytania Street to the 800 block of Louque Place.  Each was removed from a different apartment in the same building.  The chifforobe was the largest and also was on the second floor and had to be maneuvered down narrow and twisted steps.  But all the pieces were moved out and loaded and secured on two trailers and peddled 5.3 miles to their new location.  There they were unloaded and put into place where the resident instructed.  The job took 2 hours and our client was charged $160 and added a little lagniappe for our movers. 

Rain Delay

Our clients were moving into a house they had purchased from a place they were renting.  The distance was one block up the street.  MOVE IT! by bike was hired to move the BIG things from their three bedroom rental into their new place.  There was a lot to move and it took several trips. After the furniture was in the new house MOVE IT! by bike was asked to move the little things as well and so we did.  Two hours into the move the weather turned rainy.  Using the weather forecast it was decided to stop for a bit and come back in the early evening and finish the job.  Three hours and fifteen minutes  after the second start the job was done.  It took 3 movers 5 hours and 15 minutes to move it all.  Our client was billed $630 and added a very nice tip to our movers.

Bed Side Manor

Our client was helping his son and daughter in law move in.  They are both residents at a local hospital and have little time for such things as moving in and assembling furniture.  The moving in part was done but putting the IKEA bed back together was not and MOVE IT! by bike was asked to help with that.  So with the help of Dad and our tools we worked together and reassembled the bed in a little over an hour.  Total cost, $40.00

Can You Make My Bed?

MOVE IT! by bike was hired to unload a rental truck that was used to move our clients things from Nashville.  With the help of two of our movers and our clients parents she was moved in her second story apartment in an hour and a half.  She had just purchased a bed from IKEA and requested that we assemble it for her; so we did.  An hour later the bed and four drawers that slid under it were assembled.  Our client was billed $180 and added a nice tip to our movers.

Waitress Tips

She was only moving a few things a few blocks and was quoted hundreds of dollars from other movers.  So she was elated to get a quote from us for $80.00.  She only needed one trailer and so only one mover and agreed to help when needed.  Our reusable boxes were also to be used so when our mover arrived we packed her clothes and other things in our boxes.  After the boxes were loaded on the trailer, two rugs, a chair, ottoman and a book shelf were loaded on top.  At the move in location the furniture was moved in and some  furniture that was already in the room was moved out and a couch placed out on the curb.  The boxes were unpacked and items in them put away and the empty boxes loaded back on the trailer.  All this took one and a half hours and the bill was $60.00.  Our client was thrilled with the service and paid $100.00 leaving our mover a nice tip.

Vanity

MOVE IT! by bike was called to move a large bathroom vanity with a marble top and built in sink from the house in back on the first floor into the main house and on up to the second floor bathroom.  Using a shoulder dolly the vanity was carried into the main house and then carefully set on one end so it could fit around the bend in the stairway.  Again the shoulder dolly was used to bring it up the steps in the French Quarter house and then carefully set down on end again so we could put on the legs.  After that, the vanity was brought into the bathroom and put in place so the plumbers could do their thing.  All done in a bit less than an hour for a total billing of $80.00.  Our client also gave a nice tip to our movers as well.

I Need To Move Right NOW!

MOVE IT! by bike had moved her in and thought of us when it was time to move out.  Trouble was she waited to ask until the day she had to move out.  But after several phone calls a moving crew was put together and in an hour after the call we arrived at the move out location.  Long story short our client was moved into her new location in 1 hour and 45 minutes at a charge of $140.

Stuck

I believe in DIY (Do It Yourself) but sometimes one tries and fails.  A couch got stuck in twisting turning stairway in an attempt to remove it from an apartment.  MOVE IT! by bike was hired to get the couch unstuck and out of the apartment.  In less than an hour the couch was out and the client was charged $80.00 and added a nice tip for our movers.

Just the BIG and Heavy Things

Sometimes our clients move all they can themselves and hire MOVE IT! by bike to move the things they cannot.  This time MOVE IT! by bike was asked to move a couch, a futon chair, an office chair, a tool chest, a washer and a dryer.  Moving things out was not that difficult with only four steps leading down to the sidewalk from the front door.  The moving in location was a second story apartment in the back of the lot only accessible via a narrow bumpy and slanted brick and dirt pathway.  In the end everything was moved out and put in place in the new apartment in two and a half hours.  Our client paid $200.00 and also gave a nice tip to our movers.

Around The Corner

Our client was moving just around the corner but had some large furniture that needed to be moved into her new place.  Her old place was in the back down a long and narrow walkway and meant it would be a long haul by hand to get the furniture to our trainers.  So in two trips we had it all moved and moved in two and a half hours at a cost of $200.

Take It All

Our client was moving to spend his senior year living in a quieter nicer place a few blocks away.  MOVE IT! by bike was hired to move the big stuff, our client was moving the little stuff.  After moving all the big stuff it was decided to spend some extra time and also move the little stuff.  Seems our client was tired of caring everything and making several trips.  Getting it all done in one more trip sounded very good to our client.  So in another hour, everything was moved to the new place at a total cost of $80.00

Giant Amour

Our client was moving from a roommate situation to living on their own.  What she could not do on her own was moving a large and heavy amour so MOVE IT! by bike was hired to move it.  So with the help of two movers, our client and her dad we moved it into her new place in an hour.  Our client was billed $80.00 and added on a tip as well.

Moving Off Campus

Our client was moving off campus and had gotten a bed but needed it moved to her new digs.  Arrangements were made to have me come with trailer and moving equipment and our client would help.  After arriving at the wrong address (I pressed the wrong place when using google Maps) I got to the right place 37 minutes late.  Our client had the mattress, box spring and frame on the porch in protective plastic bags.  To further protect the mattresses we wrapped them in tarps.  Using our mattress slings the task of loading all onto the trailers was made easy.

Once at the move in location the frame was unloaded and moved up the stairs past the freshly painted and wet door and into the bedroom.  The frame was assembled so it would be ready for the box spring.  So then the box spring was brought up unwrapped and installed.  Then the mattress.  All this took less than an hour and our client was billed $40.00.

In The Long Run

It was a dark and stormy day.  MOVE IT! by bike was hired to what we thought was to move all the things we had staged to move on Memorial day.  When we arrived we discovered that all that had been moved on the day before.  All that was left was in a shed.  But the shed was locked and the key for it was gone.  Fortunately for us the hinges were on the outside and after removing the pins we were able to gain entry.

It was then that our client asked us if we could transport the contents of the shed to his sister's place in Kenner, 10 miles away.  So in addition to our moving equipment we loaded onto the trailer a large tool chest full of tools, two bags of golf clubs and a few other things.  The plan was to use the Lake Trail but going up and over the levee with the heavy load proved to be to much work so at Bonnabel Blvd I turned off the trail and took West Esplanade on in.

After getting drenched in several rains the items were unloaded and placed in the houses garage and this time with a much lighter load the Lake Trail would not be so difficult or so I thought.  I did not know my way would be blocked at the Causeway due to construction and had to turn back.  All along the way back I could not get off the trail due to construction on the levee.  But I found a place where a gate was only closed with a bungee cord and though muddy passed over the levee and onto the street to yet again take West Esplanade back home.  This trip would have been around 30 miles in total (Getting to the move out address, going to Kenner, the going home) but the trail being blocked made it much farther.

After getting home the trailer was hosed off to get rid of the mud and the moving equipment was put away.  But the moving was not over.  A go cart was delivered to one of our movers and a table was delivered from Goodwill to a friend's apartment.

After all that I could get out of my wet clothes, bathe, cook something to eat and get some paperwork done.  MOVE IT! by bike earned $160.00 the hard way this day.

A Busy Day Indoors

MOVE IT! by bike was hired the Sunday before, for two jobs on Memorial Day.  I got the jobs while riding in the Tour De Stands, a bicycle tour of snowball stands in New Orleans.  Having a smart phone allowed me to stay with the tour and yet communicate with my clients.  Both jobs were to move furnishings within the home.  One was in the Tulane University area the other in Lakeview.

The first job started in the rain at 8:30 am but because it was inside the rain didn't matter.  We moved several pieces from the upstairs to the down through some narrow and twisted stairs in an hours time.  The client was billed $80.00 and added a nice tip for the movers.  The rain had stopped.

The second job started at 11:00 after a long commute to Lakeview.  There was a lot to do and by the end of 3 hours we had moved several couches, a few beds, a giant desk, a few dressers, disassembled a day bed, moved some book shelves, and loaded some clothes and other small items into a vehicle.  Most items were moved from the second floor down a twisted stairway and through narrow winding hallways.  Many of the items were brought to the front of the house so they would be ready to be loaded into a moving truck at a later time.  We also assembled a bed.  One of our movers was experiencing stomach troubles but kept on working but taking occasional bathroom breaks to vomit.  Our client was billed $240.00.

The Switch

Our client had a bed in storage and a bed in the apartment.  Trouble was they wanted the one in the apartment in storage and the one in storage in the apartment.  MOVE IT! by bike was hired to switch the beds around.  When the movers arrived our clients had the bed from the apartment apart, the mattress bagged and most of the bed in the freight elevator.  So with the client's help the mattress was placed in our mattress sling and moved into the elevator.  On the ground floor the bed was loaded onto the trailer and secured in place and covered with a tarp because there was an angry sky and it looked like rain.  

The bed was transported to the storage unit and the other bed was loaded in the trailer, tapped and secured and taken to the apartment.  The job took an hour and a half and our client was billed $60.00

Bed Enters Real World

Our client's son was graduating from Tulane and venturing out into the real world.  His bed also was entering the real world by being given to a family friend.  MOVE IT! by bike was hired to deliver the bed from its former off campus home to its new home a half mile away.  The mattress and box spring were both carefully wrapped in tarps, loaded onto one of our trailers and whisked away.  At the move in location the bed frame was put together and the mattresses set into place on the second floor.  Now both bed and college grad are in the real world.  All this took an hour and 45 minutes and our client payed $100; that included a nice tip for our movers.

Cross Town

We moved her before and so she called MOVE IT! by bike to move her again.  This time she was moving from the 3000 block of Magazine street to the 3300 block of Desoto a trip of about 5 miles.  All three of our trailers were put to use.  One carried a bed, the others carried everything else.  Our journey took us past Commanders Palace where we stopped to check our load to see if all was well and tighten our tie downs if needed.  Then on to St. Charles Ave.  We rounded Lee's Circle and headed up to Loyola over to the Lafitte Greenway up to Jefferson Davis Parkway.  Then it was on to Moss Street along Bayou St. John to Desoto Street.  The furnishings were unloaded and carefully brought into the apartment and placed where our client wanted.  This move took 4 hours and our client was billed $480 and also gave a nice tip to our movers.

You've Been Served

The school year is ending at local colleges and universities.  This means graduation ceremonies and relocation.  MOVE IT! by bike was selected by a Tulane law student to help her move from her off campus location to another location where she will share space with her friends.  Several pieces of furniture were moved including a bed that required disassembly.  The whole move took two hours and our client was billed $160.00 but added a some on for the business as well as tipping our movers.

ON THE MATTress

MOVE IT! by bike has been contracted to remove tried out but unwanted mattresses in New Orleans.  As an environmentally responsible company we will always dispose of them responsibly.  This mattress went to one of our movers.  It replaced his old dog chewed mattress.
